Donald Trump’s deputy campaign manager on Wednesday said former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean, who has said Mr. Trump’s behavior during Monday’s presidential debate was reminiscent of a cocaine user, is “out of his mind.”
“Howard Dean’s out of his mind, and he’s outside of his mind,” Trump deputy campaign manager David Bossie said on “Fox and Friends.” “He is really despondent, clearly, for having written that. That’s a terrible thing to say about” somebody.
Mr. Dean, a 2004 Democratic presidential candidate, had initially raised the thought in a Monday tweet, saying: “Notice Trump sniffing all the time. Coke user?”
Mr. Dean, who is a physician, followed up during an appearance on MSNBC Tuesday by saying he wouldn’t make a diagnosis over the television.
“But that is a signature of people who use cocaine. I’m not suggesting that he does,” said Mr. Dean, who is supporting Hillary Clinton for president.
“He sniffs during the presentation, which is something that users do. He also has grandiosity, which is something that accompanies that problem. He has delusions,” Mr. Dean said.

“Do I think at 70 years old [that] he has a cocaine habit? Probably not. But, you know, it’s something that I think would be interesting to ask him and see if he ever had a problem with that,” he said.
