BALTIMORE (AP) - An artifact from 9/11 will have a new home at a Maryland airport.
The Transportation Security Administration says in a statement that Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport has been given a piece of aluminum from the World Trade Center. TSA says the piece of facade, which shows damage from the attack, will be unveiled during a ceremony on Wednesday.
TSA was created in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, and the Baltimore airport was the first to have TSA agents at it.
A permanent location for the artifact, which is about 5 feet tall, has not yet been determined.
TSA spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein says the piece “reminds us of why we’re here and why we dedicate ourselves to the mission to protect travelers.”
