MCKEESPORT, Pa. (AP) - A part-time western Pennsylvania police officer has been fired after a social media post involving the officer surfaced that apparently included a racial slur.
Pittsburgh television stations reported that the post that appeared Tuesday afternoon on social media showed the part-time McKeesport officer in a uniform with a caption reading “I’m the law today” and ending with the derogatory term.
Mayor Michael Cherepko said on the borough’s Facebook page that what he called the “past social media post” that “surfaced just a few hours ago” displayed what he called “a degree of conduct and character” that was “absolutely unacceptable.”
He said the unnamed officer was a recent hire who had been “in training as a probationary employee for just a few weeks” and was relieved of duties and terminated.
