STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) - Mississippi State President Mark E. Keenum said the school will begin its search for a new athletic director now that Scott Stricklin has left to take the same job at Florida.

Stricklin had a largely successful six-year run at Mississippi State. The football team was ranked No. 1 in the country for a five-week stretch in 2014 and the baseball team was the national runner-up at the College World Series in 2013. Stricklin also oversaw facility upgrades at several venues, including the football stadium.

Keenum thanked Stricklin in a statement and said that Mississippi State plans to “find an individual with the vision and leadership to meet high expectations for success at Mississippi State.”

Keenum said a search firm would assist the school in finding a new athletic director.
