Hillary Clinton’s campaign chairman on Tuesday said Donald Trump seemed to “really run out of gas” toward the end of Monday’s presidential debate, saying Mr. Trump “seemed not himself” and that he was sniffling and gulping water.
“He kind of came in, he was not prepared. If you can’t prepare for a debate, how do you prepare for the presidency?” Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta said on Fox Business Network.
“And I think he went from that to really kind of getting a little bit unhinged,” he said. “I think as the debate wore on, he seemed not himself … with the sniffling and the gulping of the water. He just seemed to have a terrible debate performance.”
“And he seemed at the end, having accused her of lacking stamina, he seemed to really run out of gas,” Mr. Podesta said.
Former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean, a 2004 Democratic presidential candidate, asked on Twitter if Mr. Trump’s sniffling during the GOP nominee’s first one-on-one debate with Mrs. Clinton had to do with a cocaine habit.
Mr. Trump said on “Fox and Friends” Tuesday that there were “no sniffles.”
“No — no sniffles. No,” he said. “You know, the mic was very bad, but maybe it was good enough to hear breathing. But there was no sniffles.”
“I have no allergy,” he said. “No — no cold. Every once in a while, but no cold.”
