PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded a $3 million grant to help residents of two public housing projects in Providence get job training and find work.

Democratic U.S. Sen. Jack Reed says the Jobs Plus grant will help people with low incomes who live in the Hartford Park and Manton Heights housing complexes.

HUD awarded grants totaling $14 million to six states for the program. HUD Secretary Julian Castro was announcing the grants on Tuesday.

The grant will last for four years, and will provide financial services, employment services, and other support services.

Reed says the program will help residents pursue better job opportunities, which will in turn help the neighborhood.
