PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A Providence restaurant has been ordered to pay $567,000 in back wages and damages to 104 workers after federal officials say they found workers were not properly paid minimum wage or overtime.

Jacky’s Waterplace & Sushi Bar in Providence, and its owner, Kin Wah Koh, agreed to the amount in a consent judgment entered in federal court on Friday. They’ll also pay a $50,000 fine.

The U.S. Department of Labor says there were a number of violations at the restaurant, including that servers and bartenders were required to pay when they broke something in the restaurant, or when there was an error with an order. There were also times when they were required to work for free at charity events.

The company must also train its employees on labor laws.
