The Washington Redskins have been able to move the ball a bit better in the second half, but they still haven’t mounted the comeback against the New York Giants and find themselves down 23-24, albeit ready to kick a short field goal that would take the lead.
Jamison Crowder made some noise on a short third-down screen pass that turned into a 55-yard touchdown. Crowder’s second touchdown of the year and the ensuing extra point conversion gave the Redskins a 23-21 lead over the Giants.
Safety David Bruton almost had an end zone interception, making the catch after getting tangled up with running back Bobby Rainey. The call on the field was an incomplete pass. The Redskins challenged the play, but the call on the field stood. The Giants then retook the lead with a Josh Brown field goal.
Redskins running back Matt Jones was taken out of the game after taking a heavy hit to the head (he was cleared to return to the game). Jones fumbled the ball on the play, but the Redskins recovered it to continue the drive.
On that same drive, the Redskins faked a punt. Punter Tress Way threw his first NFL pass to Quinton Dunbar for a 31-yard gain to continue the drive. When the last second ticked off the clock, the Redskins had the ball on fourth down inside the 10, and poised to go back ahead with a field goal.
