KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The Tennessee Valley Authority says it is promoting two executives following the announced retirement of its chief operating officer.

TVA President and CEO Bill Johnson says in a news release that Joe Grimes has been named executive vice president in charge of generation and chief nuclear officer, while Mike Skaggs has been named executive vice president of operations. The changes are effective Oct. 3.

TVA Chief Operating Officer Chip Pardee plans to retire at the end of the year.

Grimes has led the nuclear unit since joining TVA in 2013. Skaggs has spent 22 years at TVA.

TVA is the nation’s largest public utility. It serves about 9 million people in parts of Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
