MANNS HARBOR, N.C. (AP) - North Carolina’s Outer Banks ferry system will start switching to its off-schedule season this week for four of seven routes.
The state Department of Transportation says ferries from Cedar Island and Swan Quarter to Ocracoke will start running three round-trips daily on Tuesday.
The route from Southport to Fort Fisher will drop from 16 weekday round trips to 14 beginning Oct. 1. Weekend schedules won’t be affected.
The popular Hatteras to Ocracoke route will switch to a fall schedule Oct 11, going from 36 round-trips daily to 26. The winter schedule will take effect Nov. 8, with round-trips declining to 18 daily.
The DOT says the Cherry Branch and Pamlico River routes don’t change, while a seventh route remains the same throughout the school year.
