LSU has reportedly fired head football coach Les Miles after a disappointing start to the season.

Ross Dellenger, the football reporter for the Baton Rouge Advocate, reported the firing, citing “multiple sources.”

“Multiple sources confirm to The Advocate that #LSU has fired football coach Les Miles and offensive coordinator Cam Cameron,” Mr. Dellenger tweeted.

The Tigers have had a disappointing start to the season, losing Saturday night at Auburn 18-13 to fall to 2-2, 0-1 in the SEC West. That slow start came on top of a three-game losing streak, something that hadn’t happened this century, late last season that reportedly had Miles job in jeopardy during the offseason.

Saturday night’s game was lost in a particularly awkward fashion, the Tigers apparently winning the game on a fourth-down touchdown pass as the clock ran out. But Auburn challenged the score, and replays showed the clock already at “:00” before the ball was snapped.

While Miles had great success since taking over the program in 2005, leading the team to its third national title in 2007, his and his staffs’ clock management and other forms of “little things” discipline had been frequently criticized.

The Baton Rouge Advocate had reported earlier Sunday that top LSU officials, including the school’s president and athletic director, were meeting in the afternoon for the kind of meeting “usually reserved for after the season.”

According to the Advocate, Ed Orgeron, the team’s defensive-line coach, will take over on an interim basis.
