MIDDLESEX, Vt. (AP) - Vermont’s Republican lieutenant governor said that he would sell his share of a construction company if he wins the governor’s race in November.

WPTZ-TV reports (https://bit.ly/2d918yg ) that GOP candidate Phil Scott made the announcement after receiving renewed criticism from Vermont Democrats that his business could cause a potential conflict of interest.

Scott is lieutenant governor and has co-owned DuBois Construction for 30 years. He estimated the company gets about 10 to 15 percent of its work from the state.

The candidate made the comments at the 70th anniversary party for DuBois Construction. Scott said he didn’t want political opponents to drag his family and business through the mud.

Democratic gubernatorial nominee Sue Minter stated that Scott should explain why DuBois Construction received contracts while he served as lieutenant governor.
