HAVERHILL, Mass. (AP) - A 22-year-old Haverhill woman has pleaded not guilty to charges she trafficked about 22 pounds of cocaine in a package through UPS.

The Eagle-Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/2cWRwWR ) Katherine Ramirez entered the plea Thursday to a charge of trafficking more than 200 grams of cocaine in a package. She was arrested after authorities dressed as UPS workers delivered the package to her.

Police say Ramirez told them a person from Puerto Rico asked her to receive a package but didn’t want to give the name of the person to them. Prosecutors say the cocaine had a street value of up to $1 million.

Defense attorney Brendan Kelley says his client has no criminal history and was “asked to do this” either through pressure or desperation.

She’s being held on $1 million bail.
