HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Gov. Dannel P. Malloy is calling Connecticut legislators back into session to approve a $220 million agreement that commits Sikorsky Aircraft to keeping its headquarters in the state.
The Democrat on Friday signed a proclamation summoning the General Assembly to convene a special legislative session, beginning on Wednesday.
Under the tentative agreement reached with Sikorsky, the company will receive $220 million of grants and tax exemptions over 14 years. In return, the manufacturer will build nearly 200 CH-53K King Stallion heavy-lift helicopters in Connecticut.
The company has also committed to retaining and growing its full-time workforce in Connecticut to approximately 8,000.
Malloy notes in his proclamation how the agreement will “sustain job growth” in the state’s “robust helicopter aerospace manufacturing sector.”
Union members also need to approve the deal.
