Former President George H.W. Bush plans to cast a vote for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton in the November election, according to a prominent member of the Kennedy family.
A Facebook picture posted Monday by former Maryland Lt. Gov. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, daughter of the late Sen. Robert F. Kennedy and niece to President John F. Kennedy, showed herself and Mr. Bush with the caption, “The President told me he’s voting for Hillary!!,” according to a screenshot obtained by Politico.
Mrs. Townsend later told Politico that she had met the 41st president Monday in Maine, where he told her he was voting Democrat.
“That’s what he said,” she recalled.
Mr. Bush’s spokesman, Jim McGrath, would not comment on Politico’s report, stating that Mr. Bush’s vote is private.
He later wrote on Twitter: “Those reporting how @GeorgeHWBush will vote this year, it’s not clear anyone was there to verify KKT. Still checking, keep your powder dry.”
Mr. Bush, 92, has stayed silent on the presidential race between Mrs. Clinton and Republican nominee Donald Trump, who defeated his son, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, during the Republican primary.
