UPDATED

Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton on Sunday reportedly left a commemorative ceremony of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks earlier than expected because she was not feeling well.

Her campaign told NBC News that she felt “overheated” and went to her daughter’s apartment, and “is feeling much better.”

Mrs. Clinton, a former U.S. senator for New York, was on hand for ceremonies to memorialize those who died 15 years ago at the World Trade Center in lower Manhattan.

“Secretary Clinton attended the September 11th Commemoration Ceremony for just an hour and thirty minutes this morning to pay her respects and greet some of the families of the fallen,” campaign spokesman Nick Merrill said in a statement to MSNBC. “During the ceremony, she felt overheated so departed to go to her daughter’s apartment, and is feeling much better.”

Members of the press pool that accompanies Mrs. Clinton along the campaign trail were not immediately aware of her departure, according to cable news reports.

Mrs. Clinton emerged from the apartment building, smiling and waving without any assistance, at 11:45 a.m. before getting into a black sport utility vehicle.

Her early departure comes amid a concerted effort by her GOP opponents to raise questions about her health, particularly in a campaign that has centered on the relatively advanced age of both nominees.

Mrs. Clinton is 68 years old. Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is 70.
