Hillary Clinton raised $143M in August, campaign says

Hillary Clinton raised $143 million in August, the former first lady’s presidential campaign announced Thursday, claiming that small donors are fleeing the Republican Party and coming to the Democratic side largely because of Donald Trump’s “divisive rhetoric.”

Of the $143 million, $62 million has gone to Hillary for America, Mrs. Clinton’s formal presidential operation. The other $81 million was raised for the Democratic National Committee and state arms of the party, though there are questions about how much of that money truly goes to help other Democratic candidates and how much is merely funneled back to Mrs. Clinton.

Still, the impressive fundraising haul represents the campaign’s best month to date, leading campaign manager Robby Mook to boast that his boss now has all the resources she needs to beat Mr. Trump in November.

“We are heading into the final two months of the race with the resources we need to organize and mobilize millions of voters across the country,” he said in a statement. “Donald Trump’s divisive rhetoric continues to drive voters away from him and Republican Party and has created new opportunities for Democrats up and down the ticket. These resources will help us to register and turnout millions of voters to elect progressive candidates across the country.”

Mrs. Clinton’s presidential campaign now has about $68 million on hand, though that figure does not include pro-Clinton PACs and other Democratic fundraising committees that spend money on behalf of the candidate.
