Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton holds a narrow 2-point lead over her GOP rival Donald Trump in a four-way match-up, according to a national Fox News poll released Wednesday.
Mrs. Clinton was at 41 percent support, while Mr. Trump was at 39 percent, Libertarian Party presidential nominee Gary Johnson was at 9 percent, and Green Party nominee Jill Stein was at 4 percent, according to the poll of registered voters.
Head-to-head, Mrs. Clinton had a 6-point, 48 percent to 42 percent, lead over Mr. Trump after leading by 10 points, 49 percent to 39 percent, earlier this month.
Forty-two percent said they have a favorable view of Mr. Trump — a new high for him — compared to 56 percent with an unfavorable one. Mrs. Clinton had a 45 percent/53 percent favorable/unfavorable split.
Nearly nine in 10 Clinton supporters and Trump supporters said they’re certain to support their preferred candidate.
More than three-quarters — 77 percent — said they’d favor setting up a system for illegal immigrants currently working in the United States to become legal residents, as opposed to 19 percent who favored deporting as many as possible.
Mr. Trump made clear in a speech in Arizona Wednesday that illegal immigrants in the United States who are seeking legal status would have to return home and apply for re-entry.
Voters were divided on whether a softening from Mr. Trump on handling illegal immigrants in the United States would make them more or less likely to vote for him.
Thirty-six percent said more likely, 25 percent said less likely, and 37 percent said it would make no difference.
A majority of voters also said it would be better for the country if Congress ends up controlled by Republicans if Mrs. Clinton is elected, and by Democrats if Mr. Trump is elected.
