OXFORD, Miss. (AP) - An 82-year-old Lafayette County man is recuperating from nine broken ribs and other injuries, and says his Jack Russell terrier rescued him when his four-wheeler overturned into a ditch.

Roy Clark tells the Oxford Eagle (https://bit.ly/2dPOxC4 ) that he still doesn’t know just what happened.

He says the terrier, named Jackie, and he ride his four-wheeler to the mailbox daily. But he doesn’t remember how the vehicle overturned that day in late August.

His wife was on a cruise.

Neighbor Chris Leonard says that when Jackie kept barking for minutes, he knew something was wrong. He followed her and found his injured friend.

After treatment at three hospitals, Clark is now at Oxford Health and Rehab. He says nobody would have seen him from the road, so Jackie saved his life.
