COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - A state board that sets policy and makes recommendations for public schools could see significant turnover this election.
The Columbus Dispatch reports (https://bit.ly/2dBV96q ) seven of 11 elected seats on the State Board of Education will be on Nov. 8 ballots.
Three incumbents are forced to vacate their seats because of term limits, and one board member is not seeking another term.
The board consists of 11 elected seats and eight gubernatorial appointees, who have all been picked by Republican Gov. John Kasich (KAY’-sik).
Republicans currently hold 12 seats on the school board, while Democrats have seven.
The newspaper says 24 candidates are vying for the seven elected seats up for grabs. Contenders include several retired teachers, an outgoing state representative and Nancy Hollister, who once served briefly as Ohio governor.
