FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) - Police say a man with a knife was shot and killed in Fort Wayne, in the second fatal shooting by police in two days in Indiana’s second-largest city.

Fort Wayne police spokesman Jeremy Webb told The Fort Wayne Journal Gazette (https://bit.ly/2dVGKz5 ) that the man ignored repeated commands on Saturday evening to drop the knife, then “closed the distance” on a police officer, prompting the officer to shoot. The man fell, still clutching the knife. Emergency personnel arrived and pronounced him dead. The dead man was not immediately identified.

On Friday morning, a Fort Wayne SWAT team fatally shot a man while he held a child hostage at knifepoint. Thirty-six-year-old Joseph S. Schroeder, 36, of Fort Wayne was shot by officers after a six-hour standoff.
