RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - More groups are dropping big bucks seeking to influence North Carolina’s U.S. Senate race.
Two unions and a National Rifle Association political arm announced Friday television ads critical of Republican incumbent Richard Burr or Democratic challenger Deborah Ross. The $3.5 million in commercial buys combined are split almost evenly between anti-Burr and anti-Ross forces.
The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees and Service Employees International Union are sharing expenses on a commercial suggesting Burr has benefited financially from being in Congress and mentioning his support from the oil and gas industry.
The commercial from the NRA’s Institute for Legislative Action cites Ross’ reservations about sex offender registry legislation when she worked for the American Civil Liberties Union and her voting record on guns while in the state House.
