BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - A newly released public safety report says the number of drug and alcohol violations reported by police at the University of Vermont fell by about half from 2013 to 2015 as the university has installed numerous programs to reduce high risk use.

The Burlington Free Press reports (https://bfpne.ws/2dWtwmM ) campus police reported 682 drug violations and more than 1,000 alcohol violations in 2013. Reported drug violations fell to 318 last year. Alcohol violations dropped to 675.

Police say their enforcement and reporting policies haven’t changed. There are about the same number of students on campus.

The university implemented the voluntary Wellness Environment program last year. The program consists of three parts: substance-free dorms, wellness courses and community outreach.

Students living in substance-free dorms can access meditation, fitness and nutrition programs.
