OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - Omaha’s Salvation Army says it’s prepared to help those in the path of Hurricane Matthew now slamming the U.S. eastern coast.

In a written release Friday, the Salvation Army says it has 31 units ready to respond up and down the coast of Florida. Each has stocked its mobile feeding units with food to serve an initial 500 meals.

The units, which can serve 1,500 meals a day, will be ready to deploy to the area as early as Saturday. That’s when conditions are expected to clear in Florida.

Salvation Army officials say the best way to help survivors and relief workers is to make a financial contribution. Donations may be made online at www.give.salvationarmyusa.org/hurricane_matthew, by calling 1-800-SAL-ARMY or texting STORM to 51555.
