President Obama cast his ballot for president Friday as part of early voting in Illinois, and joked with Chicago elections officials about his correct date of birth.
When reporters asked the president who he voted for, Mr. Obama just smirked and didn’t reply.
The president made the unannounced stop at the Chicago Board of Elections office downtown and told elections workers they were “doing a wonderful job” as he filled out paperwork.
“What’s my date of birth? 8-4-81?” Mr. Obama joked.
“Nice try!” one of the workers replied.
The president retorted that he was “shaving just a couple of decades off.” He was born in 1961.
After locating a voting machine and beginning to vote, Mr. Obama looked up at reporters tagging along and cracked, “They can’t see who I’m voting for, can they?”
He feigned an effort to shield the screen.
Asked who he voted for, Mr. Obama looked up and smirked.
The president is in Chicago for Democratic fundraisers this weekend. At an event earlier Friday, he told supporters that he’s confident Hillary Clinton will win the presidency over Republican Donald Trump.
“I’m confident that we will have an incredibly capable successor in the White House by the name of Hillary Rodham Clinton,” he told the crowd gathered at the home of Democratic media magnate Fred Eychaner.
“When I say I’m confident, I’m not over confident,” he quickly added. “We’ve still got a lot of work to do … the ability of Hillary to build on the legacy we’ve established these last eight years will depend, ultimately, on what happens in the House.”
He said it’s an “uphill battle” for Democrats to win back the House but said they have very good candidates.
