LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Michigan Lottery Commissioner M. Scott Bowen is resigning from the job he’s held since 2008.
Gov. Rick Snyder says Friday that he plans to accept the resignation and will start the process to search for a replacement.
Bowen’s resignation is effective Feb. 18, 2017. He is the state Lottery’s longest serving commissioner.
The Michigan Lottery has provided nearly $7 billion to state public education and had nearly $22 billion in sales during Bowen’s time at the helm. The Michigan Lottery also launched online games in 2014.
Snyder says Bowen’s “work at Michigan Lottery has been critical to the reinvention of Michigan, with the lottery providing significant support for public education in our state.”
