MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Two University of Wisconsin-Madison students are recovering from meningitis.
The university says in a statement Friday that both students were hospitalized with meningococcal disease this week.
Additional details about the students aren’t being released, but officials are reaching out to those who have had close contact with them.
Health officials are still investigating whether the two cases are related. Depending on what they find, the university might recommend vaccinations.
The university said one of the students has a strain of the illness called serogroup B. Most students are immunized against a different strain of meningitis, but not serogroup B because that vaccine just became available. Meningitis is an inflammation of the lining surrounding the brain and spinal cord.
It is rare and symptoms include a sudden fever and severe headache.
