HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - Republican U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey and his Democratic challenger Katie McGinty each say they raised roughly $5 million in the last full fundraising quarter before Pennsylvania’s Nov. 8 election.
Toomey’s campaign said Thursday it raised $5 million in the three months ending Sept. 30. McGinty’s campaign says it raised $5.2 million.
The campaigns haven’t yet released spending figures for the quarter. The neck-and-neck race could help determine control of the U.S. Senate next year.
Toomey entered the third quarter with about three times the campaign cash, $7.7 million to $2.4 million. Total spending by the campaigns, including last year, could exceed $40 million.
Meanwhile, more than $50 million in outside money has poured into the race since the primary, according to Federal Election Commission records, primarily for TV ads.
