PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Pittsburgh Penguins will end President Barack Obama’s eight years in office the same way they helped start it: By celebrating a Stanley Cup championship at the White House.

The team was scheduled to meet with the president Thursday because they defeated the San Jose Sharks in the NHL finals in June.

The Penguins similarly defeated the Detroit Red Wings in June 2009, Obama’s first year in office, and first met him at the White House a few months later.
