Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton is facing backlash for buying TV ad time on The Weather Channel to reach voters across the battleground state of Florida who are in the path of Hurricane Matthew.

The Clinton campaign bought $63,000 of airtime on The Weather Channel for five days beginning Thursday, reported Politico, citing sources that monitor TV ad buys.

The move is guaranteed to reach voters in the swing state who are glued to the Weather Channel as a potentially catastrophic Category 4 hurricane bears down on the Florida coast. The political gamesmanship, however, could come across as opportunistic or insensitive, said Republican critics.

Rep. Greg Walden, chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, called Mrs. Clinton’s hurricane strategy “risky.”

“If they’re out being too political at a time when the country has its prayers with the people affected, I think it could backfire,” he told Fox News.
