ANGOLA, La. (AP) - The Angola Prison Rodeo kicked off Sunday and continues every Sunday in October at the Louisiana State Penitentiary.
Proceeds cover rodeo expenses, help to develop arena facilities and supplement the Inmate Welfare Fund, which provides inmate educational supplies.
The event is a professionally produced rodeo with contracted rodeo stock and professional judges hired to objectively judge each event.
Events include bareback riding, bull riding, wild horse racing, barrel racing, bull-dogging, wild cow milking, a chariot race, convict poker and Guts and Glory.
The Angola Prison Rodeo starts at 2 p.m.
