ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) - University of Michigan President Mark Schlissel is challenging faculty and staff to further embrace digital technology and other innovation in their work.

Schlissel on Wednesday is launching the university’s Academic Innovation Initiative as part of an annual Leadership Breakfast for the Ann Arbor school.

Schlissel says the initiative would build upon the work done by individual faculty and the Office of Academic Innovation, which formerly was the Office of Digital Education and Innovation. It seeks to reach students at the school as well as people around the world.

Also Wednesday, the University of Michigan is kicking off a new initiative to address poverty. The effort called “Poverty Solutions at the University of Michigan” will explore and test models to ease the effects of poverty and broadly share that knowledge.
