Donald Trump’s campaign declared victory in Tuesday’s vice presidential debate and is now eyeing this Sunday’s face-off between Mr. Trump and Hillary Clinton, with Mr. Trump’s campaign manager calling the upcoming town hall-style format a “sweet spot” for the GOP nominee.

“The town hall format is really a sweet spot for him because he’s the one out there with voters every single day,” Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway said Wednesday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

“I’m not sure the town hall format is great for Hillary Clinton, either - she seemed much more comfortable behind the podium,” Ms. Conway said. “We’ve seen her out there with people - that doesn’t seem like her most comfortable arena.”

Trump campaign spokesman Jason Miller likewise said Sunday’s format suits Mr. Trump.

“Mr. Trump will be ready as we approach Sunday and as we look at it, I think the town hall format suits Mr. Trump very well,” Mr. Miller said on CNN’s “New Day.” “I think this is where he has the opportunity to connect with people in a way that Hillary Clinton can’t.”

“There’s no amount of programming or different lines that someone can memorize going into a town hall format that I think…can really prepare you for it,” Mr. Miller said. “Either you connect with people and you have ideas that [will] move us forward or you don’t.”

Asked if Mr. Trump will be doing some mock debates in the future, Mr. Miller said: “He’ll certainly be doing debate prep in advance of Sunday.”

“I think he’ll be ready, and I think that we had a fantastic performance in the first debate, Governor Pence did very well last night, and Mr. Trump will be ready on Sunday,” he said.
