Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine’s hectoring of Gov. Mike Pence of Indiana during Tuesday’s vice presidential debate came off as somewhat sexist to MSNBC’s Joy Reid.
Hillary Clinton blasted Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump for “shocking” comments aimed at women while she campaigned in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday, but hours later her running mate was chided for his behavior towards debate moderator Elaine Quijano.
“I think the over-caffeinated presentation, I think, as — just as me watching it as a woman, I thought that it was sort of rude to the moderator to keep stepping on — over her and pretending that she wasn’t even there,” Mrs. Reid said of the Virginia senator.
“The people at home cannot understand either one of you when you speak over each other,” a frustrated Mrs. Quijano said at one point during the debate from Farmville, Virginia. Early estimates are that between 40-50 million people watched the men square off on all the major television networks.
“Tim Kaine was the more aggressive interrupter and cross-talker. I don’t think that helped him. And he was firing so many attacks, so rapid-fire and so broad at Mike Pence that he was sort of losing the point,” Mrs. Reid told MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow after the debate, Mediaite reported.
A CNN/ORC poll found 48 percent of viewers deemed Mr. Pence the clear victor compared to 42 percent for Mr. Kaine, the network reported Wednesday.
