DENVER (AP) - A Steamboat Springs restaurant has reached an agreement with the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission to pay $50,000 in back wages to eight immigrant workers who weren’t paid on time and often didn’t receive payment for working overtime.

The Denver Post reports (https://dpo.st/2drno7N ) an attorney with the commission’s Denver office, Iris Halpern, says the restaurant also didn’t distribute tips to every eligible worker. The restaurant, which wasn’t named because the agreement was reached during mediation, mostly hired workers from Mexico and other Latin American countries.

The EEOC learned of the theft after Halpern held outreach meetings in the Steamboat Springs area.

The commission says employees reported they often had to ask for paychecks and sometimes went as long as six weeks before getting paid. One employee said they hadn’t been paid for a year.
