BELTSVILLE, Md. (AP) - Officials say a Columbia woman has been charged with driving under the influence after her car hit a Maryland Transportation Authority police officer’s cruiser on Interstate 95.

Maryland State Police said in a statement that a trooper responded to a crash at I-95 and the Intercounty Connector in Beltsville late Tuesday and a transportation authority officer arrived to help. As the officer sat in his cruiser in a construction zone with his emergency lights on, police say a car hit the driver’s side, then fled.

Police say troopers found and stopped the car, then arrested the driver. Sgt. Travis Brown says 43-year-old Carol Reed of Columbia has been charged with driving under the influence and other traffic offenses.

Authority police spokesman Lt. Kevin Ayd says the officer was not injured.
