ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Some 437 fake IDs were confiscated and 411 people arrested during a statewide crackdown on underage drinking at summer concerts throughout New York.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s office released the figures Tuesday. The effort involved enforcement actions by state and local officials at several concert venues around the state.

Cuomo, a Democrat, says the “coordinated sweeps” at concert venues helped to prevent “avoidable tragedies” while sending a strong message about the seriousness of underage drinking.

The Saratoga Performing Arts Center saw the most action, with 87 arrests and more than 120 fake identification documents seized.

Cuomo administration officials say authorities are now conducting similar sweeps at college campuses across New York state.
