SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - The corn and soybean harvests are well underway in Illinois with federal agriculture officials saying farmers are making “rapid progress.”
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s weekly Illinois crop report says the corn harvest is 43 percent complete. That’s on about the same pace as last year at this time when it was 44 percent complete. The corn condition was largely ranked at good and excellent.
The report shows that the state’s soybean harvest is 16 percent finished. That’s compared to 42 percent complete at this time last year. The soybean crop condition also was largely ranked at good and excellent.
The USDA says some operators in Illinois have finished harvesting have moved on to fall field activities. The report says winter wheat has been 6 percent planted.
