TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - For the first time in eight years, Tucson residents can now catch a flight directly to Mexico.

The first flight to Hermosillo left Tucson International Airport on Monday afternoon after a presentation by representatives from AeroMar airline.

Flights into Tucson are expected to bring in thousands of dollars into Tucson’s economy.

About two million people currently come to Tucson from Mexico every year.

Aeromar will run one flight out of Tucson and one into Tucson, four days a week.

A 46-passenger plane from Tucson will head directly to Hermosillo before stopping at the three other cities including Los Mochis, Mazatlan and Guadalajara.

Return flights will come directly from Hermosillo.
