LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Gov. Rick Snyder is directing Michigan’s Commission on Law Enforcement Standards to produce a report that addresses public trust in police.
Snyder signed the executive directive Tuesday. The commission has 120 days to complete its study and produce a public report.
Snyder says “given recent national events that have strained relationships … we must take steps to build and promote faith in law enforcement in Michigan.”
Tensions have been heightened and protests held in a number of U.S. cities following the fatal police shootings of unarmed black men.
The Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards is responsible for promoting public safety by setting standards for selection, employment, licensing, and funding in law enforcement and criminal justice.
