RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - North Carolina state employees are getting across-the-board bonuses this month. Many will get performance-based cash, too.
The current budget legislators approved and Gov. Pat McCrory signed directed one-time bonuses equal to 0.5 percent of someone’s annual salary in October paychecks. For example, that’s $200 for a $40,000 salary.
Multiple media reports also cite an Office of State Human Resources memo saying merit-based bonuses also provided by the budget will go this month to employees who’ve received evaluations for the previous fiscal year. Workers meeting expectations will receive a flat $475. Those exceeding expectations get $700.
The State Employees Association of North Carolina calls October bonuses a pre-election political stunt. McCrory campaign spokesman Ricky Diaz said that’s a “ridiculous claim.” A state human resources official says performance evaluations concluded in September.
