FARMVILLE, Va. — Indiana Gov. Mike Pence pushed back against the criticism Sen. Tim Kaine leveled at him in the first presidential debate, saying Hillary Clinton and her Democratic running mate have led an “insult-driven” campaign in an attempt to turn attention away from the former Secretary of State’s failed record.
Mr. Pence said Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Kaine agenda is misguided and would further stifle economic growth and hurt the nation on the world stage.
“The last seven and half years we have seen America’s place in the world weakened,” Mr. Pence said. “We have seen the economy stifled by more taxes, more regulations and a war on coal and a failing health care reform that came to be known as Obamacare. The American people know we need to make a change.”
Responding to Mr. Kaine’s attacks, Mr. Pence said the Clinton campaign is trying to redirect the conversation away from the issues by dragging the campaign into the mud.
“Senator, you and Hillary Clinton would know a lot about an insult driven campaign,” he said.
