LIMERICK, Maine (AP) - A Limerick man is dead after a car in which he was passenger lost control and struck a utility pole in Maine.
Authorities say 19-year-old Austyn Pfeiffer died after both he and the driver, 20-year-old Caleb Washburn, were ejected from the Ford Taurus Monday morning in Limerick.
York County Sheriff Bill King says the vehicle had careened off the utility pole and rolled over before coming to rest on its roof. The pole snapped in half and scattered live wires across the road.
Washburn, of Limerick, was taken to Maine Medical Center with shoulder and leg injuries. Police say neither man was wearing a seatbelt.
King says a preliminary analysis shows that excessive speed was a factor.
