BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a man seeking a job with the Buffalo Police Department tried to use a stand-in to take the required physical test.

Police officials tell WIVB-TV (https://bit.ly/2dXDK9j ) that 24-year-old Justin Payne took the department’s written exam earlier this year. But when it came time to take the physical exam, police say the 260-pound Payne wasn’t fit enough so he had another man show up for the test.

Officials say the ruse was discovered when Payne’s fingerprints didn’t match up with those of the person who took the physical exam. Police also say the stand-in mistakenly wrote his own name at the bottom of one of the forms for the physical test.

Payne was charged with attempting to defraud a government agency. He was released from the Erie County Jail. It couldn’t be determined if he has a lawyer.
