CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Carnival’s Charleston-based Ecstasy cruise ship will be traveling to Cozumel, Mexico instead of the Bahamas because of Hurricane Matthew.
Media outlets report that the hurricane, which had wing gusts up to 140 mph on Monday, is set to make landfall in the Bahamas by mid-week. The Carnival Ecstasy was previously scheduled to visit the Bahamas islands of Half Moon Cay, Freeport and Nassau during a six-day excursion that began Sunday in Charleston.
The ship will now visit Cozumel for one day and extra days at sea will be added to the sailing.
According to the website cruisecritic.com, Ecstasy passengers will receive 25 percent future cruise discounts at $50 in credits to be used while onboard. Passengers will also be refunded any Bahamas shore excursions.
