Donald Trump’s deputy campaign manager on Monday said it’s easy for Hillary Clinton to call on the FBI to release any potentially relevant emails tied to the investigation into her private server, saying Mrs. Clinton and aide Huma Abedin could provide some clarity if they really wanted to do so.

“Of course, we want to see them, but … she’s able to say that because James Comey is not able to provide them,” Trump deputy campaign manager David Bossie said on “Fox and Friends.” “She’s demanding something that is not possible under our current system.”

FBI Director James B. Comey on Friday indicated that a separate investigation, reportedly into former Rep. Anthony Weiner’s alleged sexting with an underage girl, led the bureau to discover emails that “appear to be pertinent” to the case involving Mrs. Clinton’s private email set-up.

Mrs. Clinton and her team have called on Mr. Comey to release more information and background on his decision-making behind the letter he sent to Congress Friday updating lawmakers on the investigation.

“We all want to see transparency, when in fact, she and Huma Abedin know exactly what’s in those emails, and they could release [them],” Mr. Bossie said, referring to Ms. Abedin, the estranged wife of Mr. Weiner and longtime aide of Mrs. Clinton.

“This is going to take months, and that’s why we as all Americans are concerned about electing somebody who is going to … have such criminal problems as president,” he said.

Democrats have circled the wagons around Mrs. Clinton and excoriated Mr. Comey for making such an announcement this late in the campaign.

Many Democrats had praised Mr. Comey as a straight shooter when he said in July there likely wasn’t enough evidence to prosecute Mrs. Clinton, even as he said she and her aides were extremely careless with her email set-up.
