Donald Trump’s campaign manager on Monday said Democrats should not have “cleared the field” for an “irredeemable liar” in Hillary Clinton when they had other more palatable options for their presidential nominee such as Vice President Joseph R. Biden or Sen. Mark Warner.

“Sometimes you don’t like something Trump said or how he said it, but are you going to vote for somebody who lies for a living?” Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway said on Fox Business Network, posing the question to independent voters.

“Hillary Clinton is a serial and unapologetic - to quote a word, irredeemable liar, and the Democrats own her,” Ms. Conway said.

“They never should have…stepped aside and cleared the field of Joe Biden or Mark Warner or Bernie Sanders - all these other people who could have run and wanted to run - Martin O’Malley, Jim Webb,” she said.

“They cleared the field for her and they knew what they were getting, and now, with eight days to go, they own her and all the slop that comes with her,” she said.

Democrats are scrambling after FBI Director James Comey informed Congress on Friday that the bureau, through a separate investigation, learned of the existence of emails that appear to be relevant to its investigation into Mrs. Clinton’s private server.

Some pundits have also said that almost any Republican presidential candidate apart from Mr. Trump would be on their way to a relatively easy win over Mrs. Clinton right now, given all her controversies.
