ATLANTA (AP) - The Atlanta Hawks say backup forward Mike Scott will be out about four weeks because of a sore left knee. To deal with his absence, the team has requested waivers on Edy Tavares and signed forward Ryan Kelly.

Scott has yet to play this season. He will undergo a series of procedures that do not involve surgery.

The 6-foot-8 Scott averaged 6.2 points and 2.7 rebounds per game last season.

Kelly spent the last three years with the Los Angeles Lakers after being drafted in the second round out of Duke in 2013. He made 59 starts in 147 games, averaging 6.5 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.4 assists for the Lakers.

The 6-foot-10 Kelly appeared in six preseason games with the Hawks before being cut.

Tavares, a 7-foot-3 native of Cape Verde, played sparingly as a rookie last season and clearly was not ready to contribute.
