SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - A San Francisco supervisor plans to introduce a resolution supporting “Star Wars” creator George Lucas’ proposal for a museum on Treasure Island showcasing his popular art collection.

Supervisor Jane Kim tells the San Francisco Chronicle (https://bit.ly/2ebyApp ) the museum would bring cultural opportunities and jobs to San Francisco. She pointed out that it would also be free. Lucas would fund the project himself.

Kim says she plans to introduce a resolution supporting the proposal this week.

Lucas earlier this year abandoned plans to build the art museum in Chicago after a parks group opposed to development along the city’s prized lakefront sued to block it.

The Chronicle says San Francisco is facing competition for the museum from Los Angeles.
