LIVERPOOL, England (AP) - Everton manager Ronald Koeman has spoken again of his desire to see Wayne Rooney back at Goodison Park.

Koeman said Sunday that “Rooney is very welcome at Everton” and that his club “can hope” to sign the striker, who is currently out of favor at Manchester United.

Koeman was speaking after Everton’s 2-0 win over West Ham, and two days after saying he would be “very pleased” if Everton had the chance to sign Rooney because he “is a great player, and he has still not finished his career.”

Rooney left Everton in 2004 at the age of 19 to join United. He has lost his place in both the United and England teams this season.

Rooney said in June he will never play for another English club than United. United manager Jose Mourinho said Friday that Rooney would not be allowed to leave in the January transfer window.
